How should I prepare for the exam?
Learn how to best prepare for your upcoming CLT exam.
Start with a practice test. We have three CLT practice tests and one CLT10 practice test accessible in your CLT account. Practice exams can help expose weaknesses, strengthen a student's ability to manage time, and make him or her more familiar with the CLT's format and question style. In addition to our online practice tests, we have three practice tests in the CLT Student Guide (mentioned below), which is available for purchase in your CLT account. Please note: we are unable to ship Student Guides internationally.
Students looking for general tips and strategies will love the CLT Student Guide. Our general philosophy eschews intensive exam-specific preparation. Students who receive a holistic education that prepares them to be excellent readers and thinkers will be well prepared. Any preparation that seeks to strengthen academic weaknesses is often advantageous across all educational settings, including standardized exams. Students who read and think well and have the ability to apply knowledge learned in mathematics should perform well on the CLT.
Above all, read widely and often! We encourage students to read deeply from a variety of sources. Discussing and summarizing their reading will help students improve in reading comprehension, which is a key skill for the CLT. Our author bank is a great starting point, as we select 2/3 of the reading content on any CLT exam from these writers. Our test content page can also be used to learn more about the concepts and types of questions that will appear on the exam.
Best wishes on your CLT!
